Alessandro Mendini

Alessandro Mendini, architect, was born in Milan in 1931.
He has been editor of the magazines “Casabella”, “Modo” and “Domus”.
Monographs in various languages have been published on his work and on that done in collaboration with Atelier Alchimia.
Especially interested in neo-modern design, he creates objects, furniture, environments and installations.
He works also for international companies like, Alessi, Philips and Swatch.
He is an honorary member of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and a winner of a Compasso d'oro design prize; he holds a title of honuor from the Architectural League of New York, and is a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in France.
Work by him are in various museums and collections.
In 1989 he opened, with his brother Francesco, the Atelier Mendini in Milan. Since then the Atelier has designed Alessi House, a tower in Hiroshima, the Groninger Museum in Holland, a theatre in Arezzo, and other buildings in Europe.
